The Right to Be Human
Thessaloniki
Thessaloniki Center of Contemporary Art, State Museum of Contemporary Art, Goethe
Institute, and School of Fine Arts of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki proudly announce
the opening of the exhibition The Right To Be Human, with an opening reception on
January 19 th at 20:00pm at Thessaloniki Center of Contemporary Art, Warehouse B1,
Port, Thessaloniki.
The exhibition is co-curated by the Art Historian, Critic and Professor Thalia Vrachopoulos at
John Jay College of Criminal Justice, City University of New York, and the Art Critic and
Professor Harry Savopoulos at the School of Fine Arts of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki,
and takes place at the following venues:
Center of Contemporary Art: January 19th through February 28th, 2017
Goethe Institute: February 9th through March 17th, 2017
OTE windows: mid-February through mid-March, 2017
The exhibition rebuts, re-examines, and rejects inequities and exemplifies the goals of
humanism and social justice. Global humanism and social justice share a common goal that
seeks to promote both individual and social rights of fair access to opportunity and benefit;
and to embrace equality as governing principle in all areas of modern life. In our current era
of crisis, wealth inequality, suppression of free speech, governmentally sanctioned
discrimination, religious intolerance and political corruption all stand as blockades to the
goals of humanism and social justice.
The artists featured in this exhibition come from diverse social and cultural backgrounds and
have been chosen by the curators because their work expresses social justice.
